Client: Bottling Company
Project: Remedial Cleanup
Location: New Jersey
Description: EWMA developed a straightforward and cost-effective approach to address an environmental concern for one of the leading soda and bottling manufacturers. The ground water at the client's property had been impacted by fuel hydrocarbons in the area surrounding a former underground storage tank (UST) system used for filling delivery trucks. Previous consultants had installed numerous ground water monitoring wells in the area around the UST system. Based on the ground water sampling results, a pump and treatment system was proposed. EWMA’s re-evaluation of site geology and hydrogeology revealed that fuel discharges had migrated along a thin permeable stratum underlain by an extensive confining unit. EWMA proposed removal of the impacted stratum, which resulted in a reduction of contaminants to NJDEP Ground Water Quality Standards within a six month period.
Prior consultants had proposed a pump and treatment solution with an estimated cost of approximately seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($750,000). EWMA’s approach resulted in the closure of the case in less then two years, at a cost of approximately one hundred and ninety-five thousand dollars ($195,000).
