EWMA’s integrated approach to vapor intrusion evaluation and mitigation leverages our more than 20 years of technical experience in source assessment, investigation, and remediation as well as a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements for indoor air quality testing and vapor intrusion mitigation. Our experienced geologists, environmental scientists, and engineers seamlessly work with our clients to first develop a comprehensive conceptual site model before undertaking design and implementation of tasks. EWMA has developed several creative, cost-effective, and practical approaches to assessing and mitigating risks related to vapor intrusion.
Indoor Air Quality Testing and Vapor Intrusion Mitigation Services
EWMA provides complete and comprehensive indoor air quality testing and vapor intrusion mitigation services, including:
Pathway and Plume Evaluation
When site screening indicates the potential for vapor intrusion subsequent field investigations should be as efficient and focused as possible. Our experience with groundwater and indoor air testing allows us to rapidly evaluate complex sites using each method as appropriate for both groundwater and indoor air characterization.
Indoor Air Quality Testing
We have conducted hundreds of state-of-the-art, indoor air tests. When testing is necessary, you can be sure that the proper procedures, laboratories, and quality assurance protocols are proved, and the resulting data will be defensible. Further, we have experience and systems in place to conduct cost effective indoor air quality testing, including site access and scheduling, essential occupant survey forms, electronic data transfer, and GIS based reporting services.
Risk Assessment
EWMA experts have extensive experience conducting risk assessments for volatile chemicals and unique experience negotiating health-based risk indoor air action levels with both state agencies and the USEPA. We ensure that the decision-making process, whether to require testing, expanded testing, or to mitigation, accounts for indoor and outdoor sources of air quality impacts that may not be related to vapor intrusion.
Vapor Intrusion Mitigation
Based on a conceptual site model and pilot testing results, a vapor mitigation program is engineered and designed. The intent of the program is to mitigate the vapor intrusion concerns in a simple, reliable, and inexpensive manner that can be integrated with and not adversely impact facility operations. Our vapor intrusion mitigation design is prepared interactively with the client and utilizes existing building features to the greatest advantage green remedial measures to the extent practical to minimize power consumption (if power consuming equipment is needed).
Expert Testimony
EWMA experts have experience as both consulting and testifying witnesses on matters related to groundwater contamination and remediation, vapor intrusion impacts and remediation, risk, and other environmental issues. We have testified or provided litigation support in courts and mediation settings.
