Baseline Ecological Evaluations

EWMA performs baseline ecological evaluations to determine if contamination at a site is impacting ecological features such as wildlife, flora or fauna. The ecological evaluation is completed in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Technical Requirements for Site Remediation (NJAC 7:26E-3.11) and the NJDEP guidance for conducting baseline ecological evaluations. The evaluation is performed by an individual who is experienced in the use of techniques and methodologies for conducting ecological risk assessments in accordance with EPA guidance.

During the ecological evaluation, EWMA will:

   1. Evaluate the nature of contaminants detected at the area of concern and identify all contaminants of ecological concern
   2. Identify environmentally sensitive areas (e.g. wetlands, floodplains, surface water) within the site boundaries and on properties immediately adjacent to the site
   3. Identify potential contaminant migration pathways to any environmentally sensitive areas
   4. Make recommendations regarding the need to conduct any further investigation activities
