Cleanup Star Expedited Site Closure
EWMA personnel are individually certified by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to perform expedited Cleanup Star site assessments and case closure services. The Cleanup Star program was created by the NJDEP to greatly expedite the closure of slightly contaminated properties, including but not limited to: residential properties with soil contamination from a leaking underground storage tank (UST) and properties with up to two (2) soil contamination areas of environmental concern (AOCs) (ground water contamination can not be addressed via Cleanup Star). Industrial Site Recovery Act (ISRA) compliance cases can also be closed expeditiously via the Cleanup Star program.
Under Cleanup Star, a slightly contaminated property can be closed within approximately ten (10) business days of the receipt of a Cleanup Star application by the NJDEP, if the application is not audited, and thirty (30) business days if an audit applies. In specific Cleanup Star circumstances, No Further Action (NFA) letters have been received by EWMA in as little as three (3) to five (5) business days, which has allowed a property owner to bring closure to their environmental issues in a very timely manner.
EWMA has eight (8) Cleanup Stars on our staff that are certified by the NJDEP to assess and close a slightly contaminated property in a highly expedited manner. Cleanup Star is a valuable tool that can be utilized by a property owner seeking quick closure for an environmental contamination case. Other environmental contamination case closure routes, such as the NJDEP Voluntary Cleanup Program, often require months or greater than a year to receive final NJDEP closure notification.
