Vapor Intrusion –Property at Risk - 9/5/2008 Back |
Vapor intrusion is an increasingly problematic condition for the owners, operators, and prospective buyers of buildings in close proximity to shallow soil and/or ground water contaminated with gasoline, solvents, and other mixtures of toxic volatile chemicals (collectively referred to as VOCs). Under a rapidly evolving regulatory enforcement framework at the state and federal level, there are growing concerns over potential health risks to building occupants from vapor intrusion and stricter regulatory requirements have come into effect mandating the investigation of this exposure pathway and to rapidly implement mitigation strategies. VOCs pose inhalation related health risks at low levels barely above laboratory detection limits, especially for sensitive populations such as children and the elderly.
EWMA’s comprehensive Vapor Intrusion Risk Management services leverage our more than 20 years of technical experience and excellence in environmental investigations and remediation. We have developed quick and cost effective ways to assess vapor intrusion exposure pathways and prepare and implement mitigation design and vapor removal solutions. As part of our comprehensive approach, we coordinate our activity with tenants so as to minimize business disruption and work closely with state and local regulatory agencies to obtain the necessary approvals and clearances.
