Data reviewed by EWMA from previous reports produced by other contractors indicated that both horizontal and vertical delineation was required to fully delineate contaminants of concern on the property; specifically, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), various metals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) had been detected at concentrations greater than applicable New Jersey Department of Environmental Projection (NJDEP) Soil Cleanup Criteria (SCC) across the site. In addition, benzene, trichloroethylene (TCE), lead and PCBs had been detected at concentrations greater than applicable NJDEP Groundwater Quality Standards (GWQS) beneath the property.
The remedial investigation included the installation of delineation soil borings and groundwater monitoring wells at predetermined locations on the property. EWMA biased soil borings for vertical delineation in each area of contamination to locations displaying the highest concentration of the contaminant of concern being addressed. Horizontal delineation borings were spaced on a grid at specific intervals in compliance with the NJDEP Technical Requirements for Site Remediation. As a result of EWMA’s persistent delineation efforts, highly concentrated PCBs-contaminated soil quantities that require expensive off-site disposal were reduced significantly.
