A large urban public school district in New Jersey retained EWMA to utilize bring their district into Right to Know compliance. EWMA performed chemical inventories and compliance audits of each building within the district, which identified potentially hazardous products and the actions needed to achieve compliance. Information gathered during the inventory inspections was detailed in a report for each building and presented to the Board of Education, as well as the head custodians.
During the inventory inspections, EWMA created and applied product labels in accordance with State and Federal requirements for each designated product. EWMA also provided training on the Right to Know Law to custodial staff at each school. After completing the chemical inventories, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for applicable products were obtained from manufacturers and placed into binders. The binders serve as the basis of a chemical inventory central file in each building as well as a Main Central File at the Board of Education. EWMA ensured that the Central Files contained MSDS for applicable products, the Hazardous Substance Fact Sheets (HSFS), the most recent Right to Know Survey, and the complete list of hazardous substances recognized under the Right to Know Law.
EWMA’s experience has made our approach to Right to Know compliance cost and time efficient. EWMA provided basic training to the custodial staff regarding the fundamental requirements of the Right to Know Law and recommendations on actions required to achieve and maintain compliance. As a result, the requirements of the law can be followed throughout the year by the staff, which will greatly speed the efficient filing of yearly Right to Know updates at each facility.
