Regulatory Compliance Alert: Community Right-to-know March Deadline Approaching

March is typically the time of the year that many look forward to: the days become longer, the snow starts to melt and the temperatures start to rise. In the environmental world of regulation, it is also the time of year that certain reporting requirements need to be met. One of them is the annual Community Right-to-Know (CRTK).

The annual deadline for CRTK Surveys to be submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and other local agencies is March 1, 2019. If other certain criteria are met, facilities must report hazardous substances they possess at their property that exceed established thresholds. Although CRTK Surveys haven’t experienced much change over the years, the recent implementation of the new Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals has changed hazard categories; and therefore, modifications to reports may be necessary.

Considering some recent regulatory changes have occurred with regards to the CRTK Survey, now is a good time to review what is stored at your facility. For assistance with completion of this report, contact Craig Gorczyca, CHMM at Craig.Gorczyca@ewma.com or 973-560-1400 ext. 145.
