NJDEP Ramps Up Enforcement Efforts

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has signaled that its Site Remediation Program will increase enforcement to parties who currently have open cases that have missed regulatory deadlines. If action has not been taken within the time frame required by the Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA), the party responsible may receive a summons for failure to take action.

New EPA Hazardous Waste Regulations Coming Soon!

With the November 2016 promulgation of the new Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule (HWGIR), it may be a good time to take a look at where you stand regarding waste disposal. These new rules come into effect on May 30, 2017 and include major changes as well as new requirements. The HWGIR can be found in 40 CFR Part 262 and attempts to more clearly define the requirements for each generator category.

Bioremediation Is An Effective Method Of Remediating Groundwater Impacts

Bioremediation Is an Effective Method of Remediating Groundwater Impacts

Bioremediation has emerged as a proven and innovative approach that greatly reduces chlorinated solvents and light petroleum groundwater contaminants.  Since bioremediation is implemented with minimal site disruption, it is particularly useful when remediation of impacted groundwater is needed beneath a commercial/industrial property or in a tight space.  In many situations, utilizing in-situ bioremediation techniques to remediate groundwater is the most cost-effective and efficient approach to achieve site closure.

EWMA’s team of science and engineering experts customize a unique technically integrated turn-key approach to design and implement a bioremediation program using the following framework:

  • Assessment of Subsurface Conditions
  • Development of a Conceptual Site Model (CSM)
  • Pilot Testing of Bioremedial Approach
  • Implementation of Bioremedial Approach
  • Post-Bioremediation Monitoring

The key to implementing a successful bioremediation program is to simulate the natural bacteria existing within the subsurface (biostimulation) to such an extent that they greatly accelerate the chemical degradation process to bring contaminants below regulatory thresholds.

The long-term benefits of utilizing bioremediation also work well within the more realistic administrative goals of Licensed Site Remediation Professionals (LSRPs). Bioremediation techniques can achieve accelerated downward trends in contaminant levels that are clearly the result of enhanced biological processes.  Such results can support a Limited Restricted Use Response Action Outcome (RAO) and transition of an environmental case to regulatory closure via a Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA) program.

EWMA offers not only years of bioremediation experience and expertise, but also the support of Arizona State University’s cutting-edge research into the most effective bioremediation agents.  Our bioremediation approach can be performed under our flagship SECUR-IT® Guaranteed Fixed-Priced Remediation Program, in which we stand behind our remedial approach with a financial performance guarantee.
